5. God is Eternal

Wonder:

Eternality is that perfection of God whereby he had no beginning, has no ending and transcends all limits of time or progressions of time. At the beginning of time, He was there, before; at the end of time, He will be there, continuing.

Word:

Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God. (Psalm 90:2 NLT)

Psalm 90:2 ↗

Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom. O Lord, come back to us! How long will you delay?

Take pity on your servants!
Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives.

Give us gladness in proportion to our former misery! Replace the evil years with good.

(Psalm 90:12-15 NLT)

Walk:

Verse 12 shows us the first blessing: the privilege of living wisely. This is, in fact, “living in His Eternity.” The Christian has the “long view.” Your life does not end with death; it only really begins there. In “human time,” we “apply our hearts to wisdom,” i.e., live our lives with Eternity in view. How can we do this? Well, it is because God is Eternal, and if we live in Him, we will share in His Eternality with Him, in His everlasting Home. Living in God’s Life is wisdom, indeed.

Verses 13-15 show us that we can rejoice and be glad here in this life (because we can partake in God’s Eternity, here and now). Yes, even here and now, while in our human bodies, we can be drawn up by God into His Eternality. Living this way, nothing can destroy us. If we die, up we go, a step higher into His great Eternality! This is “living wisely.”
